Rweru lake the one on nine lakes found in Bugesera 

The Germany explorer Richard Kandt first arrived in Rwanda crossing the border near the lake Rweru in June 1898.

Dr Richard Kandt searched for the source of Nile and expected to find it in Rwanda

The lake forms part of Rwanda ‘s border with Burundi and a total surface area of 100 km2 of which 80km2 is in Burundi and 20 km2 in Rwanda

Its shoreline is about 76km, the mean depth is around 2,1m with maximum of 3,9m.

Lake Rweru is surrounded by marshes and papyrus and has floating islands with the main attractions in the area being sightseeing, bird watching since it poses a variety of water bird species that many tourists would be happy to see 

you could even visit Mazane Island (very nice Island to visit )
