Lake Ruhondo – Can it get any more picturesque?

Lake Ruhondo – Can it get any more picturesque?

Have you ever heard of that lake in the north of Rwanda? No? Well, me neither but I am telling you it is definitely worth a visit! Off the main road just before you would enter Musanze is a dirt road leading towards the lake. Don’t hesitate because of the road – yes it’s bumpy and yes for sure you need a 4×4 car and yes also a confident driver. Even though it is in theory only approx. 10 km up the hill it will in practice take roughly 45 min, including picture stops. During the way you’ll have first views on the lake and continuing even further you’ll suddenly see a massive volcano in the background as well – stunning. The best thing about taking that road up the hill is that not many tourists take it so you can enjoy the views without crowds of tourists blocking it. At the end you will be able to see the beautiful lake Ruhondo and three volcanoes in the background. It really looks like a postcard in my opinion! In theory you could continue the road and be right in between Lake Ruhondo to your left and Lake Burera to your right. However, we were running out of time and wanted to make it down to the main road before darkness. The bumpy road and the African massage you will have on the way are certainly worth the amazing view you will have on top of the hill. Perfect to relax, discover and to get connected!
