Safari Time again!

It was finally time for another safari trip to Akagera National Park! While it is also possible to stay in the park overnight we decided to experience the park in one day this time. After leaving Kigali early in the morning we arrived in the park around 9am where we had a little refreshment and briefing before starting our full day game drive.

Already on the first meters we spotted zebras and baboons – This was going to be a great day!

During the drive, our guide told us many interesting stories and facts about the park itself and also about every animal we spotted and we learned how to differentiate between an old and young giraffe or male and female baboons for instance. We had lunch by a beautiful lake with hippos close by, we could actually hear and see them all the time! After lunch the drive continued until we reached the northern end of the park in the afternoon from where we went back to Kigali. Not only did we see giraffes, zebras and impalas but also buffaloes and elephants which both belong to the big 5! This time we didn’t see any lions but it was still a very exciting feeling to know that a lion could possibly be sitting right next to our car in the grass. And who knows, perhaps we’ll see them during our next safari trip?!
